Native thoughts of the life beyond.
Wind Spirit

Wind blew softly through the pines,

a song I did not recognize,

I listened close, my ears to hear

its haunting, chanting sound.

As if in answer to my prayer

The Great Spirit called my name,

He spoke of fear and pride and strife,

and Native tribal pain,

“Your days of earthly suffering done,

it’s time you move along…

So feel no fear when I appear

from pine bough, sleek and strong.

I’ll take you on to your next step

where you will realize,

Native existence never dies,

but on the next horizon lies.”
