Fallen Angel

What a naked, pitiful sight,
with broken wings no more in flight.
You lay upon earth’s baron ground,
a whisper being your only sound.

You hesitate, but then begin
to tell of pain and suffering.
It was in flight that you had met
a star too lovely to forget.

She sang of love and passion too,
and said that she’d be true to you.
She vowed to never turn her back,
but soon her flame would fade to black.

You opened up your soul to her,
and wrapped your wings around her core.
Then, carrying her upon your wings,
she lit the way toward finer things.

Then, all at once, her flame went out.
You searched for her and gave a shout.
But she was far away by now,
a distance time would not allow.

Every day, you’d call her name, and
every day, you’d search the same.
Till one by one your feathers fell
and left behind a broken shell.

You fell upon the earth that day,
a crumpled soul with feathers frayed.
Lost without your star to guide,
you shield your face and try to hide.

The star that once burned bright for you
had chose to take a different route.
She left you with the love she’d shone,
but now to fly the skies alone.

My broken angel, if you would try;
unshield your face and open your eyes.
There’s beauty all around you here,
and flames so bright they’ll dry your tears.

Your feathers shall grow back again ,
and carry you upon the wind.
The others? They were old and worn.
Brand new ones you will soon adorn.

Your faith, I know, has been removed.
But this is temporary too.
For as your feathers dress your frame,
your faith will be restored again.

You’ll open up your wings to fly,
then soar to dance across the sky.
Surrounded by a beacon light,
your very own, now guides your flight.
