DEVOTION

Generic words and common thoughts held tightly to my heart
No sililoquy could ever come between us, nor tear us apart
We are the union of two separate souls as one from the start
And at the finish we will still be as a single entity à la carte

But there is this man now, he says his name is Esaytee Ayen
My ears have perked to the words I don't know I hear him saying
My soul is someplace else making a desperate atttempt at praying
My pure little heart tries so hard now to keep itself from graying

He slips me a number to call him later and maybe get a show
And then I turn to look away not seeing him leave in a blackish glow
But I see to my side a calling sign, a dark and ominous looking crow
The bird turns to point to me a woman sitting back in the third row

She arises and makes her way quietly to a seat next to mine
Telling me her name is Sol, and that she wishes to share some wine
The play has suddenly ended and we are somewhere strange to dine
And now she has enthralled me with her words, each line after line

But you are back home awaiting my return from the feast of night
Unaware of this hex on me, totally blind to my unfortunate plight
She sits there telling me of epiphany and foreshadow and hind sight
All I want to hear are your simple words, love, hug, kiss, our delight

His number rings with a distant hello and my certain doomed reality
And soon enough I'm starting to know this is the man's speciality
I can see my grave ahead of me and it is clear this is no novelty
My mind looks back and it comes so loud this understood certainty

But I force myself to know the stage is not yet set, bring on revulsion
And I can change this script, bring about a new play to set into motion
I shall overcome this spell, the intoxication of a strangers interjecting potion
And here I am again my dear sweet love, it is called the power of devotion!
