Should I stay or should she go?
"Don't walk away!"
I thought I heard her say.
And in that dead dismal night
I almost thought I might.
I turned to her and sought
Her soul for an echo to that thought.
Desperate eyes met long with mine
As I tried to interpret each signal, each sign.
The silence sounded as we stood
Waiting, wondering if we should.
A teardrop fell. It made no sound.
It's message echoed all around.
I moved to wipe her glistening cheek
and met her lips so she could not speak.
And as we kissed, under the willow,
I found I was choking on my pillow.
