A small poem I wrote ten years ago & still like, though I can't figure out quite why.
A Comparison

On the bank of the St.John's river

         Night
Black water, smooth as a mirror of obsidian
Now rough as shattered glass,
Spangled with shards of moonlight
And capped with frothy foam.

         Day
Amber waves, calm as a beast of burden
Now rough as tousled fur,
Sparkled with shafts of sun's glare
And stripped of magical mystery.
