This was written right after a missionary family left..
To Leave

I’ve never been so close to them
They left – I feel like I’ve failed
Like a flower cut off from its stem
My heart has been crying in travail.

Yesterday, everything was bright
When they were here by my side
They brought in me a clearer light
In God, they taught me to abide.

They taught me not to hide.
They’ve let me have a song to sing
To vent what I feel inside
And to God my problems bring.

They had encouraged me to go on
The battles of life to be won
Through God’s merciful Son
Everything could be done.

Then - they left us.
We have to let them go.
No need for us to fuss
Because time running fast.

Their leaving still hurts.
Fury still burns in my nerves.
But deep within our hearts
To leave is just a start.
