A poem I wrote about a song my Grandmother used to sing to me
There was an old lullaby my Grandmother used to sing to me. It was my special song. She never sang it to either of my sisters. She only remembered these few lines:

"Go to sleep my baby
Close your darling eyes,
Angels up above you
Peepin' at my honey from the skies..."

I have searched for this song for years, and have never been able to find it. I hope someday I will meet someone who knows the whole song.

I lived with my Grandmother most of my life, and took care of her for the last 14 years of her very long life. She lived to the wonderful age of 100.

Several years after she died, I wrote this poem. I miss her so very much.

She Gave Me the Song

A rare and precious gift
Words from my Grandmother's lips,
Gentle, soft and strong,
She gave me the song.

"Go to sleep my baby
Close your darling eyes,"
I can hear her singing
And tears come to my eyes,

"Angels up above you,
Peepin' at my honey from the skies,"
Singing to me a lullaby
Making my longing heart cry,

Her voice down through the years
Still whispers soft in my ears,
She gave me the song
Which now only my heart hears.
