A musing about being a misfit and trying to fit in.
Have you ever felt like a misfit? Like you don't really belong anywhere? Everywhere you turn you're faced with chatter and laughter. You try to blend in as discreetly as possible but your uniqueness stands out, singling you out like a black sheep.

You tap into your inner personality, struggling to fit in, yet failure tugs at you like an annoying headache that won't go away. You try to break free, shaking if off, putting more effort in your 'socialising' skills, the tugs turned into sharp pulls that threaten to rise to the surface, exploding into an unsolicited tug of war.

You submit to the pulls, pulling back from the crowd, inwardly sighing with discontent and depression. Kicking yourself for stupidity and inadequate social skills with a group of people you can't actually fit into.

You look elsewhere, scanning the horizon of homosapiens, a multitude of personalities intermingling with each other. You're in for a lengthy search, my girl!

Nevertheless you refuse to give up. The pursuit of 'like' souls becomes your new obsession. You devoutly stick to the new obsession and lo and behold...you are amply rewarded. Exhiliration fills your heart, lifting you up to new heights of happiness at having found your niche. A place you can finally be yourself in the true sense of self expression. You don't need to expend extra energy in order to be accepted. You don't need to deplete your reservoir of small talks into total oblivion. You are home...and it certainly is Home Sweet Home.
