My alternate ending of "that was then, this is now"
<This is my extra chapter to "That was then, this is now" by S. E. Hinton. I didn't write the book, and I don't own it/it's characters. If you haven't read the book, you won't get this. Pleases R/R! I need your opinion!>
------------------------------------------------

And so I keep on living. For a while I had to remind myself to live, to get out of bed and eat. After a while I got the hang of it, I did it without having to remind myself, usually.
I've started to move on. I hang out with some guys from work occasionally. No booze or drugs, just the rare smoke and a clean bull-session. But not like before, with my old friends. Not like I was with Mark. No one like Cathy. But like I said, you're lucky to have one good friend in your life. It's strange though; how rough it is. I was so lucky before. now I'm on the other side.
School is starting soon. I've talked to a guidance counselor already. He said if I pull some good grades again this year, I'll have a decent shot at college, maybe even a partial scholarship. I don't know if I want to go. He asked me what my goals were, I said I wasn't sure I had any. I'm supposed to find my goals. He suggested I gather my thoughts on paper. I don't think this is what he meant, but it's what I've got. I feel kinda dumb writing all of this down, but I guess it can't do any harm.
It's strange, isn't it? The way people change without trying to or wanting to. Sometimes only a part of us changes. That's when it hurts, we can feel a part of us being left behind. It scares us, the change I mean; we're afraid things will never be as good as before. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, you can't stop it anyhow. It's no use looking back; that was then, this is now. People grow, people change. And life, goes on.
