The (kinda' morbid) love of a mother [dedication contemporary poem]

         A Mother’s Love

Let me wipe your face, my child,
Let me wipe your face.
Let me wipe
Your muddy, little face.

Let me carry you, my child,
         Let me carry you.
         Let me carry you
         From this cold, filthy place.

Yes, I hold you now, my child,
Yes, I hold you now.
And I would never let you go,
Yes, that’s my vow.

I would caress your pale skin,
         Kiss your bluish lips,
         Love your unmoving body…

         But —

Would you ever smile again?
Would you ever laugh again?
Would you ever…

         live again?

*Dedicated to the Tsunami and earthquake victims in South Asia (especially in Aceh, where my inspirations came from).
