One dark and dreary day
There in a rubble pile
Left by the Earthquake’s sway
A kitten with a sweet smile,

Eyes of emerald green,
A coat of tortoise shell,
You were a little queen
I knew I could love well.

I took you home and fed you
Then returned you to the spot,
But they had abandoned you
And that was not your lot.

Then late that evening
I went looking again,
You came to me running,
I picked you up with a grin

Precious little kitten
So I brought you home,
And I made a promise
Never to let you go.

Eleven years have come and gone
And I’ve never regretted that day,
To my heart you bring a song
It’ll always be that way.
