just a whim of a thing, really...
What if your friend was fading fast,
Her dimming light to weak to last?
Oh, all alone her spark did waver
And all because not one did savor
The cheerfulness she had to give
That’d make you think she’d want to live.

Why dripping tears did you ignore?
You let her shrivel to the floor!
And all because you couldn’t tell
Her brightness was merely a spell.

The ridicule! The “harmless” joking!
They wafted ‘round, her mind provoking.
To hurt her, yes. To help, who’d dare?
But blow too hard and the flame will flare.

The infernal blaze within her heart
Burst forth!
Then died
Quick as it’s start
Leaving the girl all withered and dwarfed
Her gentle soul was totally morphed.

Now mark the silvery, spiral spindle
Her only trace that chose to dwindle.
As surely as it fades away
No smile on her lips will lay.
But what hope had a flickering flame
Against the winds of brutal shame?
