A poem about the loss of a friend
Sometimes I can't but wonder why
My best friend had to up and die
Permanently cancel all the plans we made
So that all she was begins to fade
I try to remember the sparkle of her eyes
The brilliance is gone no matter long I cry
The strength of our friendship amounts to dust
Fading then forgotten is our whole-hearted trust
She was in the car in front of me by thirty feet
Was it the light or the car she was trying to beat?
Squeal! Crunch! All over in a flash
Seventeen years finished with that crash
Sometimes I can't but wonder why
Why it was my friend and not I who died.
