The lies that put an end to my dream.
WHERE MY DREAM ENDS
March 13, 2005

The lies, a kick from her
lips, crushed my plans
like pebbles under hoof and
my dreams went jingling
spur-like off a boot and they
jangled down trail razing
chestnut, claybank, and buckskin
legs like fence posts
under a flash of lightning
while the thunder boomed
down the telephone wire
and into my cringing heart
and it lodged in my throat
where my thoughts could not
move and my words couldn't
breathe and I died that day
right along with them
while my dreams stomped the
ground and neighed from
the forest and my hopes
tossed their heads then
stretched their necks
over the fence to graze.
