looking back in his garden
Thoughts in a garden

He opened his eyes
With a yawn
trying to shake off a cloak of sleep
He shook his fist
wondering
why years took longer to wake.

As his gaze took him through the window
A tiny bird resting from its flight
caught his eye.
perched among the yellows and purples
that gave life and meaning
to this,
His homage to a garden

If only,a thought grew
Names might came freely
to these different hues.
He shuffled
almost uncomfortably
in his old worn shoes
as he remembered her
knealing in her garden.

Thoughts of her
flooded his mind
sending him reeling
back
to places more revealing
then he could take
on this a winters morning.

She had always been born for a garden
looking graceful as she cared
tending among the roses,
and the bushes growing there.

Then in his memories,
a smile lighted his eyes
as she extended her hand
offering tea
in the room behind her garden

If only,he mused
he'd have offered an invite
in return
A new friendship grafted
into the loneliness

I wonder where she is now
he thought aloud
as making his way to town
A new florists to see
might bring him closer to his garden

In her shop
she busied herself
standing among her roses
smiling as her thoughts returned
to her little garden
