A farewell-type lullaby.
As I went walking
Down into the forest
I saw a bird singing
High in an oak tree.

'Twitertee' it called
and 'farewell to thee'
For they frightened it off
When they tried to shoot it down.

But since I have not wings to fly,
Since I have not wings to fly.
I'll watch it off
For since I have eyes with which to cry
I'll watch it off
Until it flies beyond my tears.

As I went home
That very night it flew,
I heard a bird singing
as if it were me.

‘Twitertee’ it called
and ‘farewell to thee’
For I frightened it off
When they tried to shoot it down.

But I wish I had wings to fly,
I wish I had wings to fly
I’ll watch it off
For since I have not wings to fly
I’ll watch it off
Until it flies beyond my dreams
