A Lilibonelle, the emotion of reunion
Reunion
by Vivian Gilbert Zabel

My man dreamed and planned a final trip
To find faces of friends through the mists of time.
From shadows cast, the past enhanced today
While memories played a bittersweet tune.

To find faces of friends through the mists of time,
He wheeled ‘round the crowd-filled reunion room,
Pausing to chat, shake a hand, or share a hug,
Searching through wrinkles of now to see yesterday.

From shadows cast, the past enhanced today
As snapshots of remembered people were taken
With digital cameras and a mind's eye view.
Remembrances entwined with a last goodbye.

While memories played a bittersweet tune,
He smiled, enjoyed glimpses and tales of long ago
Before taking my hand, leaning close to whisper,
You are by far the prettiest woman here.”

Note: The Lilibonelle is a relatively modern poetry form with four stanzas. Lines 2 - 4 of the first stanza become the first lines of the matching numbered stanzas (line 2 of the first stanza becomes the first line of stanza 2, etc.). Any rhyme scheme is up to the poet. I choose free verse, no rhyme except incidental.
