I wrote this poem for my mom she went to prison for using drugs.
Healing

I want to be the one to hold you
As you cry into your wrists
Just let loose and explain to me
Just scream into my chest

Something’s happened to crush you
Whatever it is has changed you
Challenged your turbulent honor
Shattered your incredible spirit

Help me mend you in my way
Let me patch you with a kiss
Sew your heart together again
I’m not just here for comfort

I saw you in your raw sense
Though you seemed too ashamed to speak
I wish you would just open up to me
So your wound can mend itself

This is my plea to unlock your sadness
Though you’ll never hear my call
I hope you’ll confide in me

One day when you honor yourself
My embrace will become more familiar

This is when I hope you’ll whisper
Of your solitary torment
I’m here for you, unlike your past
Please don’t sink too deep
For Mom
