Growing presence of Chavs annoying anyone else?
Why is it that kevs plague our society at this moment in time? Everywhere I go it seems that there is a kev in one form or another. Whether it be the zenith of kevs, or a youngster brought up in the wrong background, it seems people like me, someone who for some reason feels that society is running away from them in values, morals and standards, have to be plagued and annoyed by these people?

The sad part is that most of them are probably alright people, not criminals, simply linked in their ideas of ‘being the best’ and having ‘respect’. And what is ‘respect’ in teenage years? Is respect the way you dress, hurling abuse at normal people, being the best at everything you try and aspiring to be more thuggish than you really are? And who gives this ‘respect’ fellow adolescents and even adults that thrive on this idea of them needing respect as well, and yet in all the constant acts of proving their worth and that they have ‘respect’ it means nothing in really terms, merely a value in which a social pecking order can be deemed by- this order only acts for them of course, and of course anyone different from them is not part of it, so what is the point of this respect? To feel secure? Deep down in the subconscious of these people, does there lie a sense, a yearn for acceptance? An acceptance into what?

The problem is that this new change in society now has roots to deep into people and probed so far into the psyche of these children and teenagers, that to try and talk on an intellectual level about it will only result in heckling or abuse, ‘what the f*** you on about mate?’ or ‘look at this f****** t***, he chatting some shit you know’ sometimes I wander if I am the only one to wander about this, why this kev society and to a lesser extent ‘respect’ society seems to have to blemish and has replaced old ideals. The problem is too deeply set now like a poison that has left a permanent mark on its victim. Younger and younger children are being swallowed up by this idea, plunged into a world they may not have wanted to enter, through older brothers and what so. Yet all this must have stemmed from a given point. Indeed there have always been rebels, punks, yobs, and gangs. But now the problem is at a high. We aren’t talking about the ultra- violent gangs, we are talking about most children now forced into a world of caps, and trousers tucked into shoes, where street credit or ‘respect’ is the only thing valued and we aren’t talking about the Mafia here; we are talking about everyday teenagers.

This feeling that anyone different such as Goths, skaters, old people, intellectuals, whoever-these need to be ridiculed or at least noticed in a negative fashion. And why? Because that is what the overall view is for this new age society of teenagers and young adults? It seems no matter where you go you can see evidence of this corruption, yet as said before the problem cannot be addressed, because if you questioned the motives of individuals, that ridicule for credit, respect, whatever, they will not tell you the true reason, because often I feel that they probably have forgotten the original reason. Once accepted into this world, old feelings of why they joined this way of life are often forgotten or even repressed as it were, and for what, for some stupid respect that is only what other people give out of fear of their own respect levels? A constant chain that cycles round devouring all that enter, few returning, many plummeting dangerously into its cycle, abusive words turns into crime, crime turns into serious crime, which in turn leads to prison. Don’t get me wrong, not all kevs are going to prison but the seeds of doubt are planted, waiting to grow.
