Summary of this Book...
This is a well researched book about Jackie Kennedy's contributions to the Kennedy Presidential legacy. It is the documented story of what went on using the White House visitors logs as a reference point.

Even though her husband openly cheated on her (going so far as to invite his mistresses to dine with his wife in front of others), she was loyal to him and contributed a lot to his successes with foreign policy as President.

It is alarming to read how reckless and careless President Kennedy was with his affairs and with his wife's feelings. According to the author, there was a struggle going on within him to be a decent human being right up until the day he died. Since he did not change his ways after the tragic death of his infant son, Patrick (in August of 1963), it is doubtful whether he would have done so.

I always have maintained that the greatest thing John F. Kennedy ever did for the country was to marry Jacqueline Lee Bouvier.

This book bears out my theory.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who is interested in Jacqueline Kennedy and all that she accomplished. I don't know how many people realize there was no guidebook for the White House before her tenure.
I especially liked...
the part about Mary Meyer, the President's most flagrant mistress who was murdered in the year or so after his death. She sounds like a very nasty piece of work.
I didn't like...
Mary Meyer, but I enjoyed reading about her to know what went on there.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
read and learn more about Jacqueline Kennedy. She is someone I truly admire, much more than her husband.
The author of this Book...
really documents everything, including the Marilyn Monroe stuff. This is the most realistic description and portrayal of that peculiar relationship she had with President Kennedy.
I recommend this Book because...
if you admire Jackie Kennedy, as I do, and want to learn more about the early 1960's and what went on with foreign and domestic policy in the U.S.A., including the nation's descent into Vietnam, this is a great book to read.
