Summary of this Book...
I'm going to preface this by saying I am not a fan of contemporary novels set in England. No offense to any English writers, but there are so many minor differences, it's just not as much fun. For example, I'd have never known what "beans on toast" was, except for the fact I visit a humor website about food, and I'm not sure I've ever seen so many baked beans! The book itself isn't bad, and it's about a family who loses their daughter. It seems like the fist half of the book was all about the families, and could have probably been done in half the pages. Then there begins to be some odd coincidences, and we get more of the story. But, I would say I had most of the pieces of the puzzle well before the end, and finishing the book was just finding where a few of them went.
This type of Book is good for...
Either someone from the UK, or a person who is more of an anglophile than I am. Also, the book was a bit slow for me, so people who enjoy a drawn out story may enjoy it.
I especially liked...
I think the character descriptions were well done. The author made them come alive, and that's good. Perhaps less what people were wearing, and more how they looked. Either way, I think this was well done.
I didn't like...
Contrary to the character description, I could have used way more descriptions of place. Setting inside were good, but if you're taking me to London, take me! I've only been once, but I would have like more visuals of the city, and at least let me know what the pub smells like.
I recommend this Book because...
Unless I knew someone who really enjoyed the setting and the style of the book, I probably would not.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Pardon my pun, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. It was plodding for my tastes, and was very easier to figure out.
Further Comments...
There are some odd changes in the plot. It was easy to follow the "now" and "then" potions, but somewhere in the middle it changes. Now we're listening to an inner monologue, and the real mystery is how we get this inside information.
