Summary of this Book...
Note that this may or may not be the most up-to-date version of the book. I've struggled for 2-3 days to get one of the ASINs to load and eventually, accidentally, got this one to. But if this isn't the most current version, don't worry. People complained that the new version wasn't really that updated and mostly just had a new cover. Whichever version you get, I'm sure you'll get great, life-changing information.

This book talks about Dr. Longo's journey to discovering what he calls the longevity diet as well as a fasting mimicking diet. It talks about his research in an accessible way and discusses the differences between a Mediterranean diet, keto, fasting, intermittent fasting, and fasting mimicking. He also discusses the importance of food and how it impacts your long-term health.

There have been complaints that his book is only an attempt to sell his products, but I disagree. He tells you what to do, though he doesn't include recipes to do it with. Though I do hope that those come in a future book. But with his book and Google, I believe you can figure out a good diet that will work for you.

Dr. Longo is actually one of the professors at University of Southern California that I want to take a class from. He's very nice and extremely intelligent. The class I most wanted to take requires a strong biology background, which I don't have, so since it discusses a lot of the principles in this book, I opted for the more user-friendly version of his information.

Dr. Longo started a company, L-Nutra, that sells a fasting mimicking food program for 5-day "fasts" called ProLon, but as some reviews have criticized him for, he has not sold out. He makes no money from the sales of ProLon. (Although I wouldn't criticize him if he did.) All the proceeds go towards funding more research to investigate how food and diets impact illnesses and diseases.

He speaks extensively about fasting mimicking diets as a more sustainable idea. They trick your body into thinking its fasting without you actually feeling like you are starving from a lack of food. The fact that ProLon is a fasting mimicking diet and he recommends fasting mimicking diets is not a coincidence, but it also doesn't mean his book is one giant advertisement for his program. It's one giant advertisement for changing how we eat to be the longevity diet, similar to the Mediterranean diet, along with 5-day fasting mimicking diets every 1-6 months, depending on your needs.
This type of Book is good for...
People who are interested in changing their diet to a healthier choice and want to choose something backed by decades of science. It's also good for people who understand that what you eat impacts how long and how well you live.
I especially liked...
The discussions of the research, but I'm a nerd like that. I did listen to the audio book, so I missed out on getting to see the referenced graphs and charts. But I still found this book thoroughly enjoyable.
I didn't like...
The fact that he didn't include some actual recipes or perhaps some measures for amounts to intake. I realize that the amount depends on the person's size and activity level, but maybe a percentage would be helpful?
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Email the author to thank him for writing it and encourage him to gather some recipes that would make up the longevity diet, and preferably some fasting mimicking diet recipes as well.
This Book made me feel...
Inspired and empowered to change my eating.
The author of this Book...
Is very smart and makes complicated information accessible.
I recommend this Book because...
It was really interesting and a fairly quick book to listen to (just over 6 hrs), thus I'm sure it's a pretty quick read.
Further Comments...
I wish this book was longer, thus the 4/5 rating for length.
