Brief insights into my writing world.
I started my blog in June 2016, intending to have a place to get my stories in the hands of readers. I started with one follower -- my wife. Seven years later, I am creeping toward 500 followers. I post a daily quote, as well as short stories, vignettes, and updates on our rebuilding project.

You can find my Tavern Tales at: https://jjshaun.com/

Enjoy!

The word of the week: water. We finally got the plumber up to get the system up and running. Turns out, it wasn’t as easy as plug and play—they thought they connected incorrectly and burned the pump out. We shut the system down and cut power. He ordered a new water pump and double-checked the configuration.

This has been a stressful week. We’ve reached the inspection stage of the project. The inspectors discovered a few minor issues and two major ones. One of the major issues is the need to rebuild the basement staircase. We caught one inspector as he was leaving the property a few days ago, and he verified a few things for us regarding the temporary Certificate of Occupancy. It was good to hear some good news for a change.

Now it’s happening. The plumber has almost completed his piece of the construction puzzle. He’s waiting on a part to complete the system, then we’ll be able to open the water valves and see if any leaks occur. With luck, the plumbing will be ready for inspection late in the week. 🤞🏼

This past week saw more progress on the basement level. The downstairs level saw progress as they put in the slider and added treads to the stairs. However, we need to return three of the windows for manufacturing defects.

Earlier this week, we met with Mr. Sub-Contractor to discuss stairs, windows, siding, decks, and the basement door. Our original idea was to have a wrap-around deck, but with the cost of materials right now, that won’t happen.
