Good use of suspense building. Skillful setting of the emotional tone of the setting. You definitely have the emotions in the communicated. If you read this aloud, you may decide to rearrange the word order in a couple of sentences. What happens to the main character after this? This piece could be expanded into a larger story. It leaves me believing the characters family and home are both gone. Could this be another Concentration Camp survivor looking back, or perhaps someone who survives some other way?
