The troubled world still looms
Sometimes I write to get away,
just lose myself in rhyme.
Escape the worries of each day;
slip through a gap in time.

It doesn’t matter what I write
or if someone will read.
It is a passion that I have,
not just a want - a need.

It calms my mind and soothes my soul
as nothing else can do.
When I am aching in my heart
it makes me feel brand new.

But writing doesn’t last for long.
The troubled world still looms.
It’s always there above my head,
a specter of my doom.

I know that may sound trite to you
or maybe just too wild,
but sometimes I can feel that way,
just like a young, lost child.

And writing helps to settle me;
it gives me peace and calm.
So if I lose myself in verse
then I say what’s the harm.
