Our old barn lost to a wind storm
The Old Bank Barn

Kathleen McNamara

One rusty old hinge
And a few broken wood slats
All that’s left of the door
On the ground lying flat

The gables, in ruins
The weather vane bent
Slate roof tiles are missing
No idea where they went

The horses all scattered
At the height of the storm
We’ll round them up later
Have enough problems this morn

The barn needed replacement
We were just tempting fate
Our farmhouse, more pressing
The barn just had to wait

The storm spared our house
But the barn’s time had come
So it’s time to rebuild it
With a much better one

A bank barn is a tradition
In our neck of the woods
So it’s a new red gabled barn
Where the old one once stood
