A sonnet about a child who creates a happy face on the frozen ice of a dark lake
The boy walked 'round twice
Through the powdered snow
To create the circle in the ice
His red cheeks were aglow

With a long stick, he reached across
and added the shape of a smile
For eyes, stones were tossed
His sister clapped his style

Happy face smiled on ice so red
As the sun slipped slowly down
And bare tree shadows fled
Into a forest of black and brown

The weighted bodies hid in the lake
Remain 'til Spring when ice shall break
