Contest entry for The Writer's Cramp
It was about 10 years ago,
in Rotterdam's inner city I happened to go.
On the 27th of April King Willem was
No mere party thrown.

The streets were a mass of people,
all decked in orange gaiety
The air was just so festive,
I just had to join them immediately.

While wandering the streets on my own,
there was a lady upon whom I did stumble.
She took my hand and led me along,
I had never felt so humble.

Now ten years on I gladly say,
that long ago Kings Day was the best.
For in my arms I now hold,
my wife with Netherland zest.
