Thinking back with different eyes.
Oh, I Remember...

Oh, I remember…
ticking off the days
until exams were over
school was out,
graduation at hand

Oh, I remember…
hearing myself say
"I'm starting a new life,
never going back
to that dead-end town"

Oh, I remember…
fighting to fit in
square peg--round hole
yearning to belong...
like I once belonged

Oh, what was I thinking...
back then?
