I appreciate how
the sun pushes its way through
the closed slats of the blinds
to cast its light
on the parts of you that escaped
from under the covers:
one leg, bent askew
an arm dangling over the side of the bed...
Oh, the gratitude I feel
as sunbeams spotlight your ebony skin
shimmer over the sinews and muscles
of your bare back
and in this private oasis,
in this sacred solitude
that is our sanctuary,
