True story of what happened a couple of hours ago

My country goes to the polls today
And I am overawed
At how smoothly the system works
Seldom does it seem flawed

The clerk at the booth was helpful
The 'no mobiles' rule I'd forgotten
She could've really been mean
But she was nice, not rotten.

When the super-senior citizens arrived
Everyone let them go first
Though some schedules thus took a knock
People at their best, not worst.

My country has its faults, I know
Things are not always great
But I'm proud to be an Indian
This I can loudly state.

We have diverse cultures
Our languages are many
But we are one people
Living in harmony.

So here's the story of my morning
On the day that India votes
Whatever be our ups and downs
This ship always floats!
