What is more pure and uplifting than a childhood friendship?
Two Little Girls
One Saturday Morning

One Saturday morning in brilliant sunshine,
Traipsed two little girls aged about eight or nine,
With the pendulum sway of their ponytailed hair,
Halfway 'tween their homes met the light-hearted pair.

Smiles lit their faces as they came together,
As cheerful and bright as the beautiful weather,
They picked up discussion left off yesterday,
Two girls in spontaneous verbal ballet.

Arms over shoulders in true “best-friend” style,
They chat, laugh and saunter not noticing while
Passing, their joy lit the whole neighborhood,
With ambrosial innocence of childhood.

And I sip my coffee perched on my porch swing,
Grateful for viewing this pure, simple thing,
Childhood friendship as sincere as this,
Has left behind sparks of pristine happiness.
