The kiss.. and that which followed it.. (An Abhanga poem)
Thrice I cried,"My Father,
Let this cup pass from me".
My men never did see
the pain and tears.

My friend, Simon Peter,
Like the rest, was sleeping,
Knew not I was weeping,
The time had come.

Swords in hand, soldiers came,
Written word to fulfil,
I submit to His will,
giving up mine.

My dear, dear friend, Judas,
Were you born just for this?
Betrayal with a kiss.
For that one night?

As I foretold, Peter,
You had denied me thrice,
So did the cock crow twice,
Yet I forgave.

Judas,You repented,
Yet why did you choose death?
You gave up your last breath
For what purpose?

If you had then known the
forgiveness I gave you,
Would you have life anew,
Just like Peter?

Why could you not forgive
yourself, for what you did?
Took your choice, and got rid
of your life.

Difference made by choice,
truly, it does matter.
A Judas or Peter,
The choice is yours.
