My son's journey into heaven - as I like to imagine it
I rise, I swoop, I soar, I glide
Bound heaven-ward on a cloudpuffed tide
I’ve shed the gloomy bonds of earth
And risen up toward my re-birth
I look behind to never-more,
Before me there stands heaven’s door
Can this be real? What’s this I see?
Is that my Savior, greeting me?
His beauty is the brightest sun,
It blinds me, binds me, makes us One
From His embrace, I look around –
At colors, beauty, joy unbound!
I feel a tug upon my sleeve –
Soft as a feather, an angel-breeze
A little child with golden curls
Stands at my knee, his robes of pearl
Billow about his cherub face
I know this child! I know this place!
My baby brother, born to soon
So brutally betrayed by my mother’s womb
He stands in health, a part of me,
His little hand upon my knee
I look into the void I’ve left
It’s pain so searing, your soul bereft
But please do not cry anymore;
I’m heaven-bound, forevermore.
