A Sonnet about when I first felt call to be a writer.
Written for: The Winters Solstice Poetry Contest, 2023

The Precious Gift of Writing

When I spent life in my chambers,
Solitude and quiet were friends.
No one lived close to be neighbors,
Time away was for the weekends.

Late at night, I would go alone,
I brought a light along with me.
I faced the night and was atoned,
When there, begged the sky for the key.

The quest received was to listen,
Look to the stars to receive cues.
Bright lights ascended to Christen,
The brightest stars have colored hews.

What changed in me is truly clear,
Given a gift I still hold dear.
