"You sit at my feet dear little one And we wonder you I, How beautiful the world around us As we consider our blueberry pie" John 1:9-12 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own,[b] and his own people[c] did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. ________________________________________________________________________________________ In the morning we rushed through the final preparations with coffee and toast in hand. The food was ready. The powerpoint good to go! Then I remembered a time just after becoming a God's child. There was a little girl and we didn't know much about verses and scriptures and Bible, but there was always blueberry pie. She learned her lessons and I learned my and we've ended up going the same way. I don't know what that has captured my imagination this morning. But I am compelled to search out the pie section of my market tomorrow. Perhaps with some whipped cream. |
The Word of Life 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing these things so that our[a] joy may be complete.  The wonder of the day breaks as I find some lyric to write and a game to play. There will be prayers today. Concerns will be well addressed and some children will awaken to the sound and glory of a God who wants to be with them. I am serene in the beginning of walking with my Savior today knowing the bliss that comes with His favor. Christ was made manifest to John and now it is to the whole world to believe on his witness of the truth. What should they do? Believe on Jesus. Receive Him by faith, and the veil of unbelief will be lifted. I have seen it a hundred times as children make Jesus the Lord of their lives. Born into the church of the Living God they begin to flourish and prosper though the source of their sustenance visibly has not changed - but the Father of Lights now takes them for a walk into eternity that begins with a simple prayer of faith. Glory to God in the Highest. Come Lord Jesus Come! |
| Dear God, Tell me about repentance. What is repentance from Your stand point? Repentance. Is it turning away from the evil in the heart and mind? Is it the most critical movement for mankind? At any time? It seems to be an outward act. But maybe, more importantly, it could be an inward act. A determination to make You the preeminent part of one's life. Is it not so? You are the Father of all Creation. You seem to desire a people who are Yours and Yours alone. Do I not find in You this loving nature? But the workings of the human heart have always been from birth set towards evil, idolatry, self worship and greed. At least since we have left Eden. The human heart seems to be "Get more than enough" and the greediness of a soul's longing is always at the center of mankind’s thinking. And yet, time and again, within the boundaries of man’s capability poverty and self extinction is always at the door. Seeking a sign is futile, because the sun rising speaks of You as "Creator God" ready to bless the one You have made. The change of seasons is a witness of Your eternal goodness to mankind that he not be overly employed in one form of work day after day. But it is mankind’s selfish view of life that anchors him in the same employment moment after moment, when worship of You, the Father, would imprint on the soul of this same man, the truth of Your loveliness, holiness, kindness and grace. Seeking a sign apart from Your word too is futile, because the lives of the ancient’s have been etched into the eternal record. The words display for everyone how a relationship with You, God and King, must be lived out. All else, the trusting in one’s own strength, is to be destroyed. But we can put our trust in You alone and discover that there is a way to thrive in this world now and in the one to come. If one has lived for the glory of self, the way of death, there is but one requirement in this last hour. Repent. Do a hard turn away from past practices and put one’s faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Call out to You alone. You are the God of love who saves. Luke 11:29-32 “This generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and Behold, something greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. I will be grateful, filled with joy and anticipation for the ways of You, O Lord, my all in all. I will study. I will embed Your word and truth in me. I will seek You early and often. I will gather faith from the seeds planted. I will sustain faith through the watering of the Word of Life. I will live in abundance because Your love has promised all the riches I need. This has been a remarkable week of ministry. When truth is the message and that message is the core of what one may refer to as ministry, there are paths that lead into unknown territory. I have been on that path this week. There were children involved. To be honest, there are always children now. If not fully formed in my waking, they are blithely playing on the outskirts of my hopes, dreams and prayers. |
Thursday - 8:22 a.m. I hear the first stirrings of my love in the kitchen. I will soon listen to her cheery words of the day, marveling how sweet her voice sounds as we discuss the chill (30° at 7 am and frost on everything) and the night she had. Sleep sometimes eludes my lovely one's most valiant efforts. She had one of those nights last night. A night on the sofa watching TV until well after midnight will slow her interaction with the world for a while. But she is committed to complete some work with me this morning. So, coffee first, acknowledgement of the sunny day ahead for us and some easy chatter is the way we will go. I look forward to hearing her voice. Of late it has become significant that we have moved from a huge city, now filled with many infected people, to a very small village on the Olympic Peninsula. On our path today is a walk on the beach where the air has never been breathed before and the sounds of the water, the gulls and the wind will be cheering our sand filled endeavors. We will have some quiet after that and meditate on how gracious our God has been to us. Even here, hundreds of miles away from a worldwide epidemic, I'm sure we would not feel safe, if not for the loving security we sense in the arms of our Father God. God's Word for us today is from the book of Colossians chapter 3 verse 12: 12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,... There is hope for me in this day that I may do as this verse says – Put on the compassionate heart, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. I need not stay in any state of mind that is contrary to God’s love and peace. I can put on something godly and fine. Whatever happens around me there is an assurance that all will be well for those whose trust is in the Lord. As I spoke these words to our bit-of-a-covenant group today, some online, some on the telephone, we were reminded that fear and worry is the opposite of putting on something more godly, like compassionate hearts, kindness and humility. My love's eyes spoke to mine in agreement as her voice took up the prayer of faith, for our teachers, our leaders and our community.
