just another day of the Ukrainian war

Just another Day in the Ukrainian war


A child stares out the window
In Ukraine
Looking down
At the war-torn city.

Not comprehending
Why the buildings
Have been destroyed
By missiles.

Not knowing why
Russian troops
Are marching through the city
terrorizing and killing
her friends And relatives.

Her mother calls on her
To come away from the window
Least she attracts Russian attention

The Russians knocked on the door
Killing her mother and brother
Then taking her off
To be adopted in Russia.

Just another day
In the Ukrainian war.
