Summer Haze
This is written for week 2 of "Promptly Poetry Challenge (2023-2024)" . The prompt is Summer Haze. Minimum 12 lines required. This is not based on my personal reality. It is a work of fiction.


Particles of pollution hang in my brain...
selfish
toxic
lazy

Clinging to my thoughts
Clogging my neural pathways
Choking my brain's breath

Oppressive heat of words
not based on reality
that I accept as my own
truth

You are beautiful
You are smart
You are valuable
You matter

Fresh air
unavailable to
lungs
blackened by the hardships
of breathing a broken
summer haze
