National Bison Day
National Bison Day - buy some what?
Remember Buffalo head nickels with the Native American head on the reverse side? We called them Indian head nickels or was it buffalo head nickels? I think I still have a few somewhere.

Bison are everywhere in Yellowstone. I saw them often even in Gardiner, where we lived for a time. They would come up the street in front of the motel or the house where we lived.

Huge animals when adult, but the babies, so cute! We called them 'red dogs' for their reddish color.

There was often a huge sigh in the car when you were in Yellowstone cruising along and saw a traffic jam ahead. It could mean only one of two things - a bison jam - or a bear sighting. Bison jams are just like traffic jams on the highway, only with huge hairy beasts in the way. Bear sightings are when people just stop on the road, because just possibly, perhaps, maybe, that black spot far off could be a bear.

What did the momma bison say to junior when he left for college?
"Bison!"

World Numbat Day - Yes, that's a real animal. Look it up.
Never have I ever seen that little animal! Australia has the most curious animals. And I read it is the only one of its kind in its family - which is genus and species, if I remember the taxonomy of animals. But they eat termites. Too bad we cannot find a way to export them to the US.
