The Secret Passageway
Two people discover a hidden doorway.

"Well, I'm off to bed now."

The young man looked at his father. "How are you feeling, Dad? You're going to bed earlier and earlier."

In a raspy voice, Gramps told his son, "Jim, I've been to every specialist in town and they've all told you, I'm fit as fish!"

The young man turned to his son. "Johnny. You too. Go to bed."

The boy tottered feebly behind the old man.

That night Johnny and his father awoke to shuffling steps. They shared a single concern. "Is Gramps sleepwalking again?"

In the hallway, Johnny and his father noticed that the bookcase was out of position.

Dad took the flashlight that was in the bookcase and they entered the hole. Instead of finding a wall, the path turned and continued. At the end of the passageway, the man and the boy emerged from behind a bookcase. Stunned faces greeted Dad and Johnny.

Gramps demanded, "Jim! What are you doing here?"

Dad said, "I found a secret passageway. What are you doing here?"

The men beside Gramps laughed. "Oh let them be." "They found us." "If they can play, then they stay."

"Well, he didn't bring an instrument."

"Aww, let them sit and watch."

The men took turns singing songs they'd written.

After Gramps sang a song, Dad asked, "Is that why your voice is raspy? How long have you been sneaking about?"

Gramps said, "Has it ever occurred to you that I kept this house for this reason? We meet every week. Tonight, I'm the Host."

Dad mused, "And now I know that you don't sleep walk. You've been awake the whole time haven't you?"

Gramps smiled as he said, "You bet I slept."
