(or how Kiya became leader of House Targaryen)

Well, Jaeff of the Free Folk, your story of cunning and daring and riding off into the sunset with unicorn and goat breeds, is all well and good – dare I say inspiring, but alas! I have no such dramatic tale to regale you with.

In fact, my decision to even participate in this year’s event was not something I had on my radar when the clock struck midnight in the good year of our Lord 2024. I had "Wonderland to worry about, and then comes Gaby, galloping in all gung-ho about reviving the monster that is "Game of Thrones.

Meh, I tuned it off and did my best not to allow the bitterness of a good show gone terribly, horribly wrong, get in the way of my thinking. Goodness knows I’ve ranted enough about it as evidenced by "The Aftermath and many other notebook entries and blog posts and possible death threat letters still sitting in a drawer for a couple of writers whose names we shall never-ever-ever-ever mention I’ve penned over the years.

Anyways, did this deter dear ol’ Gaby? Oh no. She sneakily poured on the charms and got everyone all excited about it, and guess what? This gal felt the kindling deep within her once icy gut. The fiery rage, stubbornness, and determination of the dragons was threatening to rear its ugly head again. It asked if I was willing to continue to allow some dumb writing get in the way of a perfectly good opportunity to kick some ass, Writing.com style?

         Hell, no!

“Fine, Gaby you persistent human, fine! I’ll join your dastard activity,” I huffed and puffed. “Just need to go drag out all the archived treasures from yesteryear that’s been sitting there gathering dust, and see if I can rally the troops again…if there were any still around to be rallied that is.”

Ah, the memories came flooding back once I unlocked those doors; as I browsed through the seemingly endless items written for it, all the reviews done and most important of all, my fab teammates. So, we didn’t place in the top three (and I was sure we did because we just were that awesome, in my opinion), but it didn’t matter. It was a fun experience, and deep down, I was glad I had signed up again.

Unfortunately, a lot of things have changed since the last run almost ten years ago. Yes, you heard that right. It was that long ago, wasn’t it? And out of fifteen teammates, there were only five still active, and you were a part of the five. *Wink*

Of course, wanting to begin the creation of a team early, I began sending out emails to everyone I felt could be an asset to House Targaryen. I was still of the belief that we would have to form a team of 10-15 players, so yes! Quite a few emails were sent out. I was pleased to get such positive response and by the time I knew it, I had almost ten folks lined up…until Gaby dropped the bombshell.

Five players per team this year (and one extra later down the road).

         Well, shoot. Now what?

I would have to make some very tough decisions; having to write another email saying ‘sorry, but I have to let you go because of rules, ya know?’ *Sad* And though they understood my need to do so, it still sucked to go through that.

I want to say your decision to leave the team was actually a blessing in disguise. Hah! Not that I was glad you left, because if you were still there, having three purple cases stuck in one team might be a bit of an overkill. So, you generously agreed to step aside to head North, to which I bid you safe tidings and to never cross my path or I’d be likely to singe you on ‘accident’. *cough*

In conclusion, I am here today because I am surrounded by a dedicated and hardworking team of individuals who love what they do despite their busy schedules offline. All I do, for the most part, is offer them a nice virtual massage, do my best to keep them motivated, and give them the freedom to play around however they choose. It’s all about having fun at the end of the day, and the last thing I want for my team is for them to feel like this is a chore.

We are the dragons of House Targaryen. I am its humble leader, and together we will take what’s ours with Fire and Blood.

*Fire*
