Prologue
Prologue

The year is C.D. –20, twenty years before the prophesized “century of darkness”. But you probably don’t get a good idea of the year from that. By your count, it would be about 2980 A.D.
The most obvious place to begin my story is with that prophecy. You see, about four hundred sixty years ago, our wisest archmage saw in the future a period of uncertainty and trial when creatures from the void would come and sweep across the land destroying all in their path. Countless beings would die. This would not be limited to humans, however. He saw that, when the darkness came, all beings, sentient and non-, would suffer.
Mankind is struggling to prevent the prophecy from coming to pass, but for most, there is no escaping the future. However, the prophecy tells of four children, represented by a bear, a hawk, a wolf, and a monkey, who would stand against the invasion and end it. But the enemy will do anything to get to them before that happens.
