olive boughs waving
a partly cloudy Sunday

the sun cast deep dark shadows
beautiful Sunday

The April 7, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS is
Do you remember when businesses closed on Sundays and it was a respected day of rest and worship?
Write about Those Sundays, and compare it to how Sundays are spend now.

When Sunday was a day of rest,
we went to morning Services...
Sunday school and Bible verses
followed by Hell and Brimstone preaching.
Or was it visa versa?

When Sunday was a day of rest,
Grandma never rested...
she made Sunday dinner,
washed the dishes, etc.
while we finished homework assignments.

When Sunday was a day of rest,
my mother waited tables...
a single Mom
with four kids to feed
she could not rest for long.

When Sunday was our day of rest
a neighbor woman bitched
because Saturday was her day of rest,
but Grandma's laundry day;
she thought the neighbors show disrespect
when they worked on the day she rested.

I think I need a day of rest
a day to relax
away from the stress
of modern civilization.

Thought of the Day: “Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.” ― Maya Angelou, Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now
