I AVOID THE 4 P'S.....
PROMPT: Talk Tuesday! How has your fashion sense changed in the last five, ten, or twenty years?
I object to the pairing of the words 'fashion' and 'sense'. Too many of the fanciful, dare I say, ridiculous clothing featured in magazine spreads and on-line news blurbs is not created to actually be worn in the real world. It defies good sense. No one could possibly teeter/totter down any set of stairs or a street perched precariously atop exaggerated heels that model's seem to favour. Their swaths of fabric severely impede movement; I doubt they'd withstand the everyday rigors of sitting, squatting, stretching/reaching, climbing- stairs, in and out of vehicles, cooking, eating, or even a sudden sneeze or coughing fit. Their outfits restrict them to being propped upright in a corner. I shudder to think of the possible wardrobe accidents; material snagged in an elevator door, or a car door, or even a cupboard door. Many of the so-called outfits are not conducive to human contact unless one prefers stabbing, jabbing, poking, or static electricity jolts.
No, my idea of fashion has not changed over the years. I've never been a girly, glitzy, glamorous dresser; no frills or frou-frou for me. Jeans and a t-shirt are my style; casual and comfortable. If I must don footwear, I prefer thongs/flip flops or sneakers. I've never been a fan of head gear. Only when the mercury hovers around -40C. will I begrudgingly pull on a toque. At that point, I am free to sulk, but still be warm. Scarves are not me either. Women seem to knot them around their necks year-round, no matter the weather. Are these people all the next American Idol hopefuls guarding/warming their precious vocal cords?
I can't recall the last time I ever wore panty hose, but I can verify that I have at least once. Rarely, do I don a dress. I do not own a pair of leggings or jeggings or a belly-baring crop top. I avoid the 4 P's: polyester, plaids, patterns, and pink.
