On the Edge

Morning’s got me on the edge again.
The dark sky keeps its secrets
and me in suspense,
until the fire breaks over the horizon.

And here am I, on the edge of my bed.
Eager to race the light,
to run ahead of the day.
If only I could reach to tie my shoes.
