Ruth 4 01/15/2021

I just spent the entire day researching and writing a research paper about Ruth 4. I think I will ask a question based on Ruth today. Then we'll go back to Proverbs.

Why do you think the unnamed next-of-kin refused to redeem the land when he found out Ruth came with the land? After all, she was a foreign widow and basically a slave. She would have added value to his estate in that respect.

Ruth was from Moab. They were not normally worshipers of one God. By her own free will she had tied herself to God. Her intent was to become one of God’s true children. And so, she wanted to remain with Naomi and go to live with her in Israel. By this decision she was not a slave, according to God a grafted in member of the Israeli nation.

Nevertheless, the unnamed next of kin worried that his Israeli inheritance would be compromised by his gaining the land and marrying Ruth. Thus, mingling his blood with a Moabite.
