May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

D/C versus E or Difficult/Controversial versus Nicey-nice
It is amazing how many of us live real lives and aren't just caught in daydreaming.

Me? I'm a daydreamer; but, I also have to live with real situations: depression and anxiety, failing health, loneliness and my own inability to face reality and deal with it.

I write poems, stories, mostly fiction. When I blog however I want to scream about covidiots like Robert Waltz did today in "No Choice. Thankfully Elisa the Bunny Stik outlined in "Storming of the brainy variety how those of us who wish to have real discussions about difficult/controversial issues (d/c) might go about it.

I responded:

"Yes, I agree. A more organic home-spun approach would work if enough people would participate and support each other.

We bloggers did a lot of d/c back in the day. Like Elena's piece "Melanie" from 2015 on abortion (in Troublesome Musings) we went there.

Those who cannot handle d/c can go play in the Kiddie's Room. I might even go play with them occasionally!

But fuck the idea that we can't talk in front of the children because we might offend someone. I'm offended by gay-bashing, race-trashing, trans-baiting, hate-mongering, ignorance... And folks are offended by swear words? *Angry*

However, I don't like the way r/r is set up at WDC and how it's abused. I don't think it's honest. I'd rather read and comment. So, I'm not much help with that.

And contests are lots of work. I don't run one because I don't have the energy to carry through. I burnt out years ago; I can't be relied upon. But... we need a couple d/c contests. Maybe one for poetry, or stories, or personal blog entries or non-fiction essays. That... or present contests need to open up. I doubt that will happen.

As long as this website is "overrun" with Latter-Day-Victorians (I like your use of "escapist nicey-nice"), writing about serious d/c topics is a hard sell. Newbies don't seem to know that d/c even exists here.

I'll work on this from the blogging end. The contest end needs to find a sponsor/host that isn't spread too thin or burnt out. Preferably someone new... but who?"

Personally I don't think the very nice (but naive imho) crowd is going to invite us over to play with their toys. That means that those of us who wish to talk seriously about serious d/c (even taboo) issues will need to find another room to play in.
