The Planets

I dreamt a strange dream
Where planets were like stepping stones
Across a black sky to the suns gleam
Each alive with different tones

On Neptune, I shivered in the dark
Here the sun was not the only star
In a dark blue sky, I saw its spark
Like a tiny light from afar

On Uranus, under cyan skies
It was cold as ice and the winds raged
The sun could not be seen with eyes
In blue clouds, I felt caged

On Saturn, I looked at the blue
Fascinated by rings and moons
My feet sank in gas and goo
Her moons played different tunes

On Jupiter, in a neverending storm
I felt heavier than ever before
Blue skies filled with the form
Of the coat of moons, it wore

On Mars, I stood on Mons Olympus
Around me was red rocky rust,
The air was thin and the tempest
Hid the blue dawn in endless dust

On Earth, I waded through deep oceans
A world full of life, breathing air
Green forest and bird song emotion
Left me reluctant to leave from there

On Venus, under the orange firmament
My foot sank into a burning wasteland
I breathed in acid, damage permanent
Beneath crushing skies was lifeless land

On Mercury, I stood on solid ground
Looking up to black starless skies
There was no air or life to be found
The suns light blinded at its rise

Finally, at the sun I realized
It was larger than all the worlds combined
Their orbits, around it centralized
Their light and warmth it defined
