Unhappy New Years
Unhappy New Years

So far, this year has been terrible. And it only started a few hours ago. For me, it started yesterday when I got to work, and I found out that someone had already called in “sick” or gotten a PTO for this weekend. I’m not allowed to do either one. Even if I ever get sick, I can’t take off. As for getting any PTO aka Paid Time Off, I have to give a thirty-day notice. And I’m not allowed to do it on a holiday, the day before, or the day after. Everyone else can. But not me.

What does that mean to me and my writing? It means two more split shifts. Both of them will be at the gate I used to work at. Which means I’m probably going to be on my feet most of the time. I’m not going to let that stop me from writing, though. I just don’t know how much I’m going to be able to do. Especially, in the first four hours. If it’s anything like last Thursday, I may be lucky if I get about one Act written for my Water Wars scriptwriting project.

Working two more split shifts may slow me down some if not a whole lot. But it’s not going to stop me. And if they think that I’m slow now, they haven’t seen anything yet. They can force me to work there. But they can’t force me to do it faster. They may think that they can. Just like they may think this will make me quit. But it won’t.

Where I’m working isn’t my only problem today, though. I also have the weather to deal with. This new year is starting out with a very bad snow and ice storm. And it’s supposed to be a bad one. I hope that it isn’t going to be as bad as they are saying. After all, I’m not allowed to call in to get off work. Whether it’s a PTO or not. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few others did. But I can’t no matter how bad the weather gets.

I don’t know how much writing I’m going to get written over the next two days. But I’m hoping that combined I will be able to get a hundred and twenty-five to end the single sentences for my movie Scene Outline. Of Course, I want to do a lot more than that. And under normal circumstances, I may be able to do that. But not where I work. I’m not counting on anything until it happens.
