Pro Tip: Use All 3 Genre Categories

Using all 3 genres for your item allows searchers to find your item when they are browsing for something to read.

It also increases your odds of winning "The Quills" if your item gets nominated because you are entered in all the genre categories offered that year...if your item has that genre listed. (If the genre isn't listed, no matter how obvious it is, your item will not be entered in that genre category. Use all 3 genre categories!)

Note: Don't use "Other," "Contest Entry," "Contest" (unless your item is really a WdC contest) or "Activity" (unless your item is really a WdC activity). These categories don't generally get searched for by readers and don't increase your odds of winning "The Quills".

Bonus Tip: An easy recommendation you can give for items you review is to help them think of 3 genre categories and encourage them to add them if they don't already have all 3 genres filled.

Pro Tip: Improve your odds of winning "The Quills" by filling out all 3 genre slots!

There are 2 ways you can win a Quill with a single entry.

1. The original category it was submitted for
2. The genre category it's listed as

I ran a fundraiser that raised over 26 million GPs. *Proud* I couldn't believe I didn't win Best Raffle/Auction. *Shock* It was animal themed, so I had listed "Animal" as 2nd the genre. It won the Best Animal genre. *Delight* If I hadn't filled out my genres, I would have missed out on a Quill Award. *Sob*

We don't nominate items for a Best (fill in the genre) award. We nominate for categories like Best Short Story, Best Novel, Best Short Poem, Free Verse. Then the secret Quills elves organize things by genre, if we have them listed, and select a winner for each genre (that has several entries?)--or so I understand the process. Wait...Are the genre awards the ones we vote on? Maybe the Quills elves could have explained it better if I'd asked, but then I might have to kill myself, you know, top secret information and all. *Laugh*

Main Point: FILL OUT YOUR GENRES--ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR "The Quills" !!!
